Talcum powder produced during and before the mid-1970s contained asbestos. Some studies showed talcum powder to have contained up to 20% asbestos. Asbestos was found in many cosmetics and other products containing talcum powder until it was banned in the mid-1970s.
Millions Awarded in Recent Talcum and Mesothelioma Lawsuit
The family of Richard Booker, who died in 2016 of mesothelioma, was awarded $22.17 million in a case against talcum powder suppliers Imerys Talc America Inc. and Vanderbilt Minerals LLC. Booker was exposed to talcum powder while working for Walter N. Boysen Paint Company and Dexter Midland Chemical Company.
“The jury in Alameda County, California, Superior Court added the punitive damages to a Nov. 27 compensatory-damages verdict that included a stipulated $440,000 in economic damages,” shared Law360.
